New Brunswick, New Jersey is known for its underground music scene, grease trucks, and being the home of Rutgers University. But where is there an on-line platform that features music or arts from the Middlesex County? The hub city is getting some support from a new endeavor called Pollifax, an online literary, arts, music, and culture magazine that provides a look at the talents of New Brunswick natives. The first issue of Pollifax launched in September and is growing every month both in readers and features. It was spearheaded by Rutgers University students Christine Tran and Kevin Olita.

THE WANDERER SESSIONS:

"The Wanderer Sessions" section features New Brunswick based musicians. This shows the problem musicians face of trying to find places to perform. There is a lack of proper spaces for artists, so Pollifax has “created a medium for local talent to be showcased to the world; a medium that is completely immune from the threat of being turned into a pizzeria."

Think, maybe, like the Daytrotter Session or Pink Couch Sessions. But Pollifax films strictly New Brunswick bands in New Brunswick locations to both promote the bands and the city and address the growing issue of spaces being shut down in the city; thus leaving performers with no places to perform. Hence the "wanderer" sessions.

“Acoustic sets are done and recorded in New Brunswick places such as street corners, stairwells, parks, etc, to both promote the creative talent of the town and allude to the fact that venues and coffee shops are being shut down everywhere.”

This month check out a Wanderer Sessions with the indie/soul band Like Trains & Taxis at the Turtle Shack. Past sessions include Glad Hearts, The Delfields, Pilar Timpane, Snowbaby, and Dan Rauchewerk. Don't forget the slew of poems, short stories, and now 13 word novels in this months issue.
