The Diamond Sea Break-Up

Melbourne, Australia's The Diamond Sea have decided to call it quits. The 4-piece toured the U.S. for a quick east coast run last summer, hitting up Brooklyn, NY and New Brunswick, NJ. In an interview with Mess and Noise bassist Alicia says:

Some of my personal highlights were playing with Gorilla Angreb, doing the Off Minor tour, getting to tour the States, playing the Cake Shop in New York and playing with Little Lungs, who are touring here in February. Also, all of the friends we've made through this band, the impromptu circle pit at [last year’s] Summer Tones and releasing our 10” and 7”. There's been so many highlights. Thanks to everyone for coming to our shows.

Thankfully everyone in the band is still pursing music. Alicia is in two new bands, Scott is in Circuits, Steph (Tara?) is in Alphabet Snakes and Circuits, and Jacquie has three new bands. The band played their last shows in Jan. 23 and 24 in New South Wales. The band cite The Cure, Wire, Joy Division, and Television as influences. Their 6-song Slow Signal 10''/EP is available here. Our post from The Diamond Sea's show in New Brunswick, NJ last year is here

  1. Meh. This is very sad news, but if I had to hear it, I'm happy to hear it here. Thanks for the excellent reporting, as always, Star.

And thanks for the video! It's a nice way to reminisce about the single time I got to see them!

  3. I saw them at Silent Barn, with Little Lungs. Who played "10 Sets of Jaws", and dedicated it to The Diamond Sea. But for real? They wouldn't have played it if I hadn't put in the request for it with Angie earlier that week while we were volunteering together in Brooklyn!

I'm so glad I bought Slow Signal at that show, and supported them while I could.
