This week L.A.'s Best Coast take their surf, shoe-gaze sound to New Jersey and NYC. Tonight the band is at Montclair's Meatlocker. Doors at 7pm. $10. All Ages. 8 Park Street. Tuesday they're at Brooklyn's Knitting Factory with The Bitters and the Babies (featuring Cassie of Vivian Girls). They wrap up their stay with an early show at Mercury Lounge on Wednesday.
The band opened for Japandroids at Bowery Ballroom on April 1. TimeOutNY covered the show and had the following to say:
Opening was surf-rock sensation Best Coast, performing last night as a trio with Ali from Vivian Girls on the drums. Bethany Cosentino & Co. showcased a lot of new material, including the excellent new song “I Want You” that the group had started playing around SXSW. It’s breezy pop flecked with emotional, teenage lyrics packaged together pleasantly. And girl can really sing, too, which props up the melodies substantially. The momentum for Japandroids’ set started with Best Coast’s penultimate number, “When I’m With You,” and its sweetly simple chorus, “When I’m with you / I have fun.”
