The Drums @ Other Music
Brooklyn's indie-pop band The Drums performed a free show at Other Music for Record Store Day. This is the same band that sold out Bowery Ballroom in January. Whistley, catchy, snap-your-fingers to pop songs drive this 4-piece. The band went on at 9:23pm to a packed store of roughly 75 people. or so with people waiting to get in outside The sound seemed surprisingly off. Jonathan's vocals weren't as clean as they are on the band's Summertime EP. They seemed rougher. Watching him dance was wonderful, though. His various facial expressions, gestures, and movements made for a good live show. The guitar playing sounded okay, which was good, but at times the melodies seemed off. I'm not sure if this was due to the sound system or if the band sound different live. They breezed through "Let's Go Surfing," "Down By The Water," some others off the EP, and some new songs. The set lasted 30 minutes. The Pains of Being Pure At Heart performed next, but I was off to another show.
