Live Review: Finn Riggins @ Cameo Gallery 4-29-10 + Photos

By M.Morales

Finn Riggins is a band from Boise, Idaho that's hard to describe. Even iTunes is confused. It lists Finn Riggins latest album, Vs. Wilderness, as "unknown genre." However, after seeing them live, talking with guitarist/vocalist Lisa, and doing some head scratching, I came up with: experimental indie rock. Point is this band seem to throw away all notions of what's popular or catchy with music these days. I certainly give them credit. I also give them credit that this show was like their 60th or something of their tour.

The dual male/ female vocal parts were nicely arranged going back and fourth or harmonizing between keyboardist Eric and Lisa. They managed to sound like a mix of a few genres without sounding like they were trying too hard. There were some prog, math, pop, rock, and big beat elements that make this trio sound cool. The band played a few songs from their latest release, Vs. Wilderness, including the crisp sounding, and upbeat song "Wake (Keep this Town Alive)" and also "Mahoney." It's refreshing to hear a band like this. Listen for yourself if you're interested. The band played about a half hour set at the Cameo Gallery  in Brooklyn this past Thursday night and I'm glad they did.
