Air Waves kicked off the June series of free lunchtime music at the South Street Seaport this past Wednesday. The Brooklyn band delivered a jangly indie rock sound. Parts of the band had a Pixies vibe, but much more simpler. Sadly I only heard two songs of the set. Nothing particularly grabbing, but pleasant nonetheless. Definetley no bullshit to this band. Although the music lacked something to make it stand out, not for lack of originality, but because it was damn slow and somewhat boring. In hearing some of the band's tunes on MySpace I soon realized that their sound keeps the same light, simple sound. For the South Street Seaport setting it was nice, but it's not really my taste otherwise.
They have some noteworthy shows coming up. On June 24 they're at Union Pool with Yellow Fever, and June 25 at Don Pedros with Ecastatic Sunshine, Dunstin Wong, Prince Rama, and Weekends. Finally, the band top off the month with an opening slot for Wintersleep and Matt Pong at the Bowery Ballroom on June 25. Not too shabby. In July, the band heads to Europe for a tour.

should air waves do jump kicks and do guitar shreds and pump up the reverb to make it less boring?
ReplyDeleteIs this the person that talked to me forever and pretended to like our show? -Air WAves
ReplyDeleteHi. The two songs I heard at the Seaport were nice. But listening at home was another experience.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't pretending to like your music when I spoke with you. I told you I would post pics and a possible review. It wouldn't have been fair to just write on the band based on only two songs I heard. If I didn't like what I had heard initially, I wouldn't have spoken with you. I just hope you appreciate I took the time to come out and write about your band.
No You definitely pretended to like our music, and wasted my time. In the futur don't tell bands when you are going to shit talk them in a review. That's not how it works.
