Extra Life performing at Death By Audio this Wednesday, remix album

Extra Life combines elements of Medieval chant, metallic hardcore, dark neofolk, abstract modernism and lush pop. They're headed by singer/guitarist/composer Charlie Looker, former member of Zs who has played with Dirty Projectors, Glenn Branca and more. Their latest record Made Flesh extends from fragile acoustic ballads to industrial symphonic assaults.

When I first heard Extra Life, I thought they were one of the weirdest bands I've heard in a while. Brooklyn has always been know for delieving all kinds of music, being innovative, and experimental. Now with its new remix Ep Splayed Flesh the band gets even more inventive. If I had to describe this band in one word it would "experimental," but that doesn't fully capture what the band does. For fans of Z's, Kayo Dot, and The Paper Chase.

This Tuesday the band perform a record release show with Sam Mickens' Ecstatic Showband & Revue and Apollo Heights at Death By Audio. Doors at 8pm. Show at 9pm.

In addition the band has the song "Head Shrinker," the Tyondai Braxton (Battles) remix, available for download above. Just right click and hit save link as. The EP features the epic 11-minute song "Made Flesh."
