Live Review: Kate Tucker @ Rockwood Music Hall 7-10-10 (photos)

Kate Tucker writes the kind of sad music that needs to be heard. Although somber, her dark brand of folk-indie-rock music, settles with you. The Ohio born, Seattle settled songstress brought her music to a tiny bar on the Lower East Side called Rockwood Music Hall. She played songs from her new album White Horses. One of the songs, "Blue December," starts off slowly with Tucker's voice being the prominent instrument. "I don't love you anymore," she sings. The song is about her leaving someone. Another sweet one she dedicated to the crowd was "All My Love." Her voice keeps a steadiness that is hard to find, with so many vocalists over-doing it, but not Tucker. Her's is consistent. It captures you. When she sings, you listen. You can almost hear her voice crack--the words so touching--almost too hard to sing, it seems. There's so much heartache in her voice and words, yet there's a smile after she finishes the song. Her keyboardist and guitarist  also sing certain parts to add to the fragility of their sound. In the end, Tucker reminds us: "it's gonna be fine."
