This Saturday in Brooklyn is a benefit show in the memory of Jake Stults featuring performances from Ruiner, Another Breathe, Attica! Attica!, and more, plus raffles, and good times!
Jake Stults played bass and guitar for a number of NYC/NJ area punk and hardcore bands in the early-mid 2000's, including De La Hoya, Dreams Forever Drowning, and the Rebel Alliance; as well as, was the original guitarist for screamo act In First Person. In 2007, he relocated from New Jersey to Portland, Oregon where he was working as a teacher at a middle school, but still played in bands and kept involved in the punk rock scene.
In May of 2010, Jake was involved in a skateboarding accident that resulted in severe brain trauma. He spent two days in the ICU and on life-support. On May 9th, he was removed from life-support and his organs were donated to over 70 recipients. He passed away at age 31, survived by his wife Irene, as well as both of his parents and sister.
In the wake of Jake's death, both his wife and family are left with extensive medical bills stemming from his mere two day hospital stay. This benefit show has been organized by Barrie Cohn of Generic Insight Radio and several other of Jake's friends (including his long-time friend/former De La Hoya bandmate Aaron Scott of Attica! Attica!). The proceeds raised from this show will go towards his wife and family to help cover the costs left over from his hospital stay.
The show will be at the Party Xpo, 929 Broadway (JM to Myrtle-Broadway) on Saturday, September 25th at 6pm. Admission is $10 at the door, with advance tickets on sale until Friday at genericinsightradio.bigcartel.com
Performing the show, from headliner to opener, will be RUINER (playing the first of their final three shows), Attica! Attica!, Another Breath, Achilles, Such Gold and Mayflower.
Also available at the show, as an extra fundraiser, will be limited edition silk-screened posters of the show flyer, designed by Teddy Casper (vocalist/guitarist of Mayflower), and raffles to win prizes in the form of vinyl test presses donated by the bands/labels. Test pressings include records from Polar Bear Club, Achilles, Another Breath and Such Gold. Raffle tickets will be available at the merch tables and winners announced at the end of the show. For more information regarding Jake's accident, life, and medical costs, please visit either of the following websites:
