EP Review: The Great Explainer- The Way Things Swell

The Great Explainer- The Way Things Swell (10" EP)
Trenton, NJ
Released July 13, 2010
Chunksaah Records

For fans of: Hot Water Music, Latterman, Small Brown Bike

The Great Explainer do what many a bands have before, blend punk and post-hardcore for a swirling mix of melodic and chuggy guitar goodness. Here  the 5-piece Trenton band craft a solid EP. They take what's out there and put their version on it. Different lyrics, different vocals, different musicians, but similar sounds. That's not bad. It's too say that this sound has made a good impression on  these musicians. The band's dual vocals featuring guitarists Sean and Matt make for some extra nice dynamic. This sound will always sound good to me. Two different guitar parts, two vocalists, and passionate lyrics. Yeah. Check out "Quotas."

The EP is available on coke-bottle blue vinyl and lemon lime 10'' vinyl here.
