Album Review: The Bamboo Kids sing about The Way Things Are

The Bamboo Kids, The Way Things Are
Brooklyn, NY
Drug Front Records

For fans of: Piano-rock, Bruce Springsteen, The Clash, and Starsailor

The Bamboo Kids, complete with horns and keyboard know the way to an old-school rock kids heart. They remind me of a mesh between some '60s oldie band and old-school punk, with keys. The title track, "The Way Things Are" is the best. There's a  light guitar twang, before the driving keyboard kicks in. "I can't believe that's the way things are, but that's the way they are," is a catchy line with a soulful delivery. On the last song, “The Streets of New York City” the horns and piano are so insync with each other and the music is very forceful for just a trio. There's a dash of old-school dance-punk mixed in as well, but don't be fooled, there aren't any screams or fast drumming, but the beats are steady. The Bruce Springsteen vibe is a nice touch. These are songs you can whistle and clap your hands along to and songs you relax to. Surely, this is worth your listen.

The Bamboo Kids are: Dwight Weeks on Guitar/Vocals,
Vince Cecio on Bass/Vocals, and Chris Orlando on Drums
