Jeremy Messersmith has two upcoming NYC shows + free download & video

Singer-songwriter Jeremy Messersmith is set to play the cozy Joe's Pub tonight at 7pm. It's an early show in support of the his album trilogy which concludes with The Reluctant Graveyard. The Minneapolis native delivers warming indie-pop tunes that recall the '60s sound that belt with heartfelt emotion. The 11 songs showcase the observations of Messersmith. He plays with Andy Thompson, Brian Tighe, and Dan Lawonn, who together add an eclectic mix of instruments including glock, monome, harmonica, and cello, to name a few, to Messersmith's bass and casio. His vocals are pleasant, sounding near perfect. Sweet, yet not poppy. Mature, thoughtful, and bitter. Somewhat dark, speaking of death, as the album title would suggest, it's hardly noticeable sometimes. It's difficult to pay attention to the lyrics when you're just so wrapped up in the music. "Violet" pulls you in with the steady keys, sweet vocals, and repetitious "get out." However, the gleaming song on the album is "Dillinger Eyes," a Beatles influenced tune, where Messersmith sings: "for five long years I was wanted by the F.B.I."

The album, along with 2008's The Silver City and 2006's The Alcatraz Kid is available digitally for a name your own price download and physically on cd and vinyl.

According to his website, he'll play songs from the three releases, some b-sides, and covers. So come out and treat yourself to some nice tunes in NYC. Tickets are $12. Joe's Pub is located at 425 Lafayette Street, Manhattan.
Also, if you miss him tonight, catch him at Littlefield in Brooklyn on Wed., June 9th. 8pm. $8 in advance, $10 at the door. He'll play with The Morgues and No Hay Banda. More information here.
