Toronto pop-punk band Junior Battles is joining O Pioneers for a May tour beginning today. They will be at Knitting Factory in Brooklyn this Monday, May 10 with Bomb the Music Industry and Asbury Lanes on Tuesday, May 11 with Bomb the Music Industry and Franz Nicolay. They're touring to support their Self-Titled 7'' released on Square Up Records. You can purchase the limited 500 vinyl (available in green with white or Grey marble) here or download it for free from If You Make It. They are also planning a split with O Pioneers on Kiss of Death Records.
Recommended for fans of Jawbreaker, Green Day, Bad Religion and Saves The Day, this sweet slab of wax doesn't ignore Junior Battles' roots; the soaring harmonies and richly layered choruses are in full, glorious effect, and it's apparent that the band's heart still pumps in time with the beat of its esteemed influences. There's a sharpening of the outfit's sound though. Galloping rhythms and buzz-saw guitars propel the songs into more dynamic territories, while the lyrics hit harder with a cutting glance toward the rigmarole of the music industry as well as what it means to make the transition from a band that occasionally plays around town to one that has become a much bigger part of each member's life.
