Mat Burke (from Nashville) to play NYC show 6/3

Mat Burke, a Nashville based folk-punk artist (originally from Philadelphia), is headed to NYC for a gig at Kenny's Castaways this Thursday, June 3. He performs at 9pm sharp. Mat will play with his band that evening and Rhythm Dogs opens at 8pm. 21+.

Spirited in the vein of Frank Turner and Andrew Jackson Jihad, Burke captures the acoustic folk-punk sound nicely. His debut album, Kill or Be Killed, features 9 politically charged, uplifting, punk songs. "Yes, we can," the words of President Obama, starts the album's title track. The harmonica and acoustic is fast, in good folk-punk form. "Dawn of a New Revolution, " a 6-minute song has Burke singing about life. "These years go so quick, but these hours pass like days...it's the dawn of a revolution, are you scared?" Another notable song is "Scars, Punk, and Drunks," which tells how punk rock saved him. His influences include Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie and Jack White. Sounds good to me! So get ready to sing along with Burke this Thursday.

Kenny's is located on 157 Bleecker Street, NYC 10012 between Sullivan & Thompson Street.
