"Brain-Cave Festival is a celebration of Brooklyn's finest, most-mind expanding bands, artists and DJs. Not unlike exploring the same-named, isolated dive site and underwater cave near Costa Rica, Brain-Cave will present the curious music and art explorer with a host of exciting new discoveries in an environment far-removed from the typical venue, gallery or bar. With 17 radical bands and four amazing DJs showcased alongside live painting and artwork, Brain-Cave promises to be a 12-hour explosion of artistic stimuli! Jamsterdam, a Free All-Day Concert at Coney Island this Friday

This Friday at Asser-Levy Amphitheater (Surf Ave at West 5th) in Coney Island is Jamsterdam, an evening of music featuring rock, folk rock, acoustic, metal, hip-hop, and rap artists. The event will be held from noon to 8pm and is FREE and ALL AGES. It aims to raise awareness about Autism. Learn more about the bands playing here.

Feature: NJ and NYC Music Festivals in June

If you don't have time to get to a dozen shows a month to catch you favorite bands, like the idea of seeing bands all at once, or just want to discover new music, then you should consider reading on. New Jersey and New York are hosting festivals that are sure to catch your eye. While providing  music fans with an eclectic mix of sounds, these fests are fairly inexpensive, and not all of them are outdoors. Here we offer you a sample of some of the best fests that are coming through, from 1-day events like Make Music and Punk Island to 3-day DIY indie rock shows Boro 6 Fest, and a hardcore and punk fest in Long Island.

1. Star Beat Music: How and why did the fest form? 

Pete Kirk: The festival start back in 2008 to highlight the best of the best local bands in the tri-state area. It was created to let people know that their still is a scene. 

2. What bands are you excited about that are playing? 

PK: I am excited to see Count Your Blessings play this year. They played last year and killed it. I would suggest for everyone to check them out.

3. What do you hope the fest will do for the community and music scene in NJ? 

PK: I hope that the festival will let people know that their are really some awsome local bands out there and also that it will help spread the word out Jersey State Entertainment. DIY 4 LIFE

Generic Insight Radio Fest f/ None More Black, Algernon Cadwallader on Feb. 26 & 27 in Brooklyn

Generic Insight Radio, the weekly Internet radio show hosted by Barrie, will celebrate 4-years with a two-day festival. The fest will bring you punk, hardcore, and indie rock at two venues in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn on Feb. 26 and 27. Black Numbers, the New Jersey indie label is sponsoring the event. The label's own Static Radio NJ will appear. Headlining Day 1 is Algernon Cadwallader and Day 2 is None More Black. You can see all 18 bands on the fest for $21. Ticket are available here.

Harvest of Hope Festival Line-Up Announced

Harvest of Hope Festival, which brings together 100 punk, folk and indie rock bands to the St. John's County Fairgrounds in St. Augustine, Florida have announced their line-up. The 3-day festival now in its second year will held March 12-14. It benefits the migrant farm-workers charity, the Harvest of Hope Foundation. The goal is to provide entertainment and education in an environmentally conscious way through music.

Local New Jersey acts Senses Fail, The Casting Out, and The Measure (SA) will perform along with New York acts Lemuria, Bomb the Music Industry!, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Yula Beeri, and Shellshag. Major acts include Dr. Dog, The Mountains Goats, Anti-Flag, Kimya Dawson, Portugal.the Man, and Sea Wolf.

Jersey Stock 2009- 3 Days of over 40 rock, pop, and alternative bands- Paramus VFW

This weekend, May 29-May 31 Jersey State Entertainment brings you 3 days of the the area's best pop, rock, and alternative bands at The Paramus VFW, 6 Winslow Pl, Paramus NJ. Tickets are $10 for each day. Friday's highlights include The Scenic (Victory Records), The Goodnight Anthem, and Hotspur, alongside locals Exit She Calls and the Murder and the Harlot. Saturday it's Action Item, Count Your Blessings, Vice on Victory with locals Hands on the Stereo and In Full Bloom. Kearny's American Classic also perform their first show. Closing out on Sunday is The Talk About, Floral Terrance, Sexy Heroes, and May or West.

Free, All Ages Hardrock Festival f/ Marc Rizzo, Moja, Inhuman and more 12/7 in Brooklyn

Bamboozle, May 3

While large festival aren’t my typical cup of tea, as I like to see bands in much intimate settings, I’ve managed to attend Bamboozle at the Meadowlands Sports Complex for three years. This year I would venture with Greg, Gery, and Gabby for a delightfully fun time.

Our first stop to the big bubble where we saw Anthony Raneri of Bayside acoustic. It was good to chill out. I calmed down after missing The Sleeping. Raneri played “Sorrow,” “Landing Feet First,” and “Devotion and Desire.” Streetlight were fun. RJA were okay, they played a Foo Fighter cover which was pretty neat. As Tall As Lions were really good acoustic, it was awesome to see them stripped down. They played “Love, Love, Love,” “Ghost of York,” “Maybe I’m Just Tired.” A Day to Remember were fun as always. The Bravery were amazing. I had a great time hearing “Believe” and “An Honest Mistake.” Paramore were intense, got in the crowd and held onto the three G’s as we pushed our way to the front. I had to get out of the crowd at the end. Heard Jimmy Eat World play the songs I knew, sounded great. Snoop Dogg was…an experience. It was weird seeing rock kids so into Snoop. My friends loved his set and he played 30 minutes more than expected. I recognized tracks, I didn’t even know were his, ha. “Jim and Juice” was classic. He was all about presenting himself as a ganster and the whole sex, drugs, alcohol thang. Good times.
