Brooklyn punk rockers ShiraGirl visited the studio of 89.5 FM-WSOU on Sept. 5th for an exclusive acoustic performance of their song "Sick Day" and for an interview. This Saturday it's Star Child's Final Show on WSOU w/ acoustic sets by Kevin Devine, Joe Wilson, Exit She Calls, and ShiraGirl



























Dear Readers,

I’ll be celebrating four years at 89.5 FM-WSOU with my last show on Saturday, September 5th from 7pm-2am. Since I graduated from Seton Hall University in May I have to do a final show at the end of the summer. During my time at the station I was an assistant producer, newscaster, and assistant and director of promotions. It was an amazing run, where I worked with great people, got to voice my opinion, go to some great shows, meet some awesome bands, and interview some cool ones as well. Some highlights include interviewing Murder by Death and Poison the Well, meeting Megadeth and Slipknot, doing stage announcements for Rise Against and Atreyu to sold out crowds at Nokia Theatre, Times Square and seeing Interpol and Muse at Madison Square Garden for free.

I’ve interviewed Artimus Pyledriver, Fear Before the March of Flames, Marc Rizzo (of Soulfly), In This Moment, Tim from Rise Against, Doug of the Sleeping, Tommy of The Autumn Offering, Marissa of Screaming Females, Shira of ShiraGirl, Kristin Hersh of Throwing Muses, Otep Shamaya of OTEP. On Tuesday, September 2 at 4pm I’ll do my final interview before my last show with Suicide City. They'll talk about their new album "FRENZY" and the future.

My last show will be on Saturday, September 5th. I'm going to play an eclectic mix of music, tell some station stories, get roasted (I'm sure) by fellow staff members and friends, and maybe a few other surprises. Expect to hear music from The Beatles, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Gaslight Anthem, mewithoutYou, Have Heart, Screaming Females, Blink-182, Lauryn, Fuel and many more.

WSOU gets new web stream, blog, and Twitter

Your leading New Jersey radio station for loud rock, 89.5 FM WSOU has made a few changes this summer. First, they have a new on-line stream here. Second, they have a blog for "music and absurdity." You can check out recent concert reviews of Killswitch Engage, Eagles of Death Metal, and Incubus. Finally, the station got a Twitter account filled with music news and SOU happenings any listener or loud rock fan should know. So tune in, follow the station, and read and comment the blog. The station still has giveaways all the time, so make sure to listen for your chance to win concert tickets, cd's, and much more.

Gallows to play secret NJ show tonight!

That's right, UK punksters Gallows will perform a secret show at a beloved place in NJ, making it the band's third time performing in the Garden State this week!

The band, in a myspace bulletin said:

Thanks to everyone that came to see us today at Warped in Oceanport!

We're sticking around and will be playing a Basement show tomorrow in New Brunswick. We actually don't know much about it so don't ask us questions... I guess if you're in the know then we'll see you there ;)

It's going to be insane!

89.5 FM WSOU to air Tribute to Women in Rock Show this Wednesday, 8-10pm













On Wednesday, March 18, 89.5 FM WSOU will air a special show for Women's History Month, “Women Rock: A Tribute to Women in Rock N’ Roll." The show will air from 8 to 10 pm. Starting from 1950s rock n’ roll to the metal bands of today, DJ Star Child will show the evolution of women in rock. You’ll hear Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, The Gits, Tegan and Sara, Walls of Jericho, and many more.

The show will feature music from the past 60 years, interview clips from female musicians, historical commentary, and fun facts.

Slipknot playing MSG tonight, New Jersey on Saturday

























With a day off before they played at Madison Square Garden, as part of the All Hope Is Gone World Tour, Corey Taylor and Shawn Crahan of metal outfit Slipknot stopped by WSOU 89.5 FM yesterday to talk about the making of "Dead Memories," their new cd, masks, and touring. The band is touring with Coheed and Cambria and Trivium. Tonight they play the arena of arena's, the garden--Madison Square Garden. Tickets are still available.

Then this Saturday Slipknot perform at Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, NJ. Tickets are available here. The band is touring the U.S until mid-March, so check out the rest of the dates here.

Marc Rizzo Interview on WSOU, Thursday + NJ Show, Friday



























New Jersey’s guitar virtuoso, Marc Rizzo will be interviewed on 89.5 FM WSOU this Thursday (1/8/09) at 3:30pm. Rizzo will discuss his show in NJ on Friday, upcoming Soulfly dates, and his other musical projects and happenings.

I will be interviewing him. If you have any questions, please send a reply in the comments.
