Don Giovanni Records Showcase 2011

Jersey label Don Giovanni Records will present their 4th annual showcase on Feb. 11 at a TBA venue featuring headliner Lemuria and Feb. 12 at Music Hall of Williamsburg featuring headliner Screaming Females (tickets on sale Friday at noon). Screaming Females have already opened for Throwing Muses, Dinosaur Jr, Jay Reatard, and most recently the Pains of Being Pure at Heart at Music Hall, so it's nice that they're headlining almost two years since the Muses gig. With two new signings, Big Eyes and Laura Stevenson & the Cans, it was no surprise they'd appear on the shows. All these bands have news and recent releases, so here is the low down.

Day 1: The Steinways is releasing a singles collection LP on the label and with Alive Records. The Measure (SA) have released a new album on No Idea Records called "Notes." Black Wine is releasing a 3-song 7'' called Dark Energy. Full of Fancy released their new collection called Liquid Nature+Singles. And finally, Big Eyes have a 7'' demo out on Evil Weevil and are releasing a 7'' single soon with plans to record a full LP in May.

Day 2: Screaming Females released a Singles EP and Castle Talk LP. Laura Stevenson and the Cans is in the studio working on a new album. Lemuria is releasing a new album called Pebble on Jan. 11 through Bridge Nine Records. Shellshag released a new album called Rumours...And Byrds of Paradise is releasing a new album called Teenage Symphonies on Jan. 11.

Lemuria post new song, new 7'' out 11/23

Buffalo, NY's Lemuria posted the new song, Chautauqua County, on their MySpace! This track is available on the synonymous forthcoming 7inch EP, which will officially be available November 23rd from Bridge Nine. The Chautauqua County EP also features the unreleased b-side "They Are Who I Say They Are".[via Bridge Nine]

Lemuria sign with Bridge Nine Records

Bridge Nine Records have announced the signing of Buffalo's Lemuia. The mostly hardcore driven label had the following to say: 

"It's important for us to have a diverse roster of artists and we feel like Lemuria compliments a lot of our other bands while standing strong on their own accord. We've had Get Better in rotation in the office here for a while and after adding two hardcore bands to our roster, Mother of Mercy and Foundation, we decided to change it up a bit and sign Lemuria. I think our roster really mirrors our collective musical tastes and it's always exciting to expand on the types of music we release."

Benefit show f/ Lemuria, Full of Fancy, Static Radio NJ, and others in Trenton on March 7

A benefit show is being held at Championship Bar in Trenton, NJ on Sunday, March 7. The show will help raise money for Shanye Miel, the singer of The Future Kings of Nowhere from Durham, North Carolina. He has stage four B cell  Lymphoma, a form of cancer and no health coverage.

Bands performing include: The Tea & Whiskey, Lemuria, Static Radio NJ, Full of Fancy, Post No Bills, The Sirs, Radio Exiles, Curious Buddies, and The Timid Roosevelts. Donation is $10. Championship is located at 931 Chambers St, Trenton, NJ. Doors at 2pm.

Lemuria Tour Dates + Writing New Album

Lemuria have tour dates lined up for the next few months, mostly with Leatherface, which will bring the band to Brooklyn once and New Jersey twice, before the Harvest of Hope Festival and Rad Fest. They'll play a loft show at 538 with The Menzingers and Captain, We're Sinking on March 5, then two dates in NJ after. The first is at Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park on March 6 with Leatherface. Tickets are available for $10 here. After they'll be at Championship Bar in Trenton on March 7 with Static Radio NJ, Tea & The Whiskey, and others for an all ages, matinee benefit show. The band also announced a few details about new material via a MySpace bulletin:

We are currently writing our new album! We are going to be recording it this summer and hopefully it will be released by the end of the year!

We'll be playing a handful of songs from it at all of our upcoming shows.

Lemuria to release new album in 2010

Buffalo pop rock band Lemuria issued the followed statement via MySpace & Facebook:

I know it's really far down the road, but we're planning to record our 2nd album in July! Which means we'll have a new full length out by fall (roughly) of 2010!

Also, we're having a holiday sale right now, it's seriously awesome! We have these hoodies for sale that have the Log Lady from Twin Peaks on them.

New Song: Lemuria "Expert Herder"

Lemuria have posted a new song called "Expert Herder" off the band's new 7'' called "Ozzy," coming out this month on Syracuse, NY label, Hex Records. You can listen to the new song here. The 7'' features two new songs, plus a down-loadable song with a silkscreened cover and your choice of three colors. You can get it here.

The band is scheduled to play The Fest in Gainesville, Florida from Oct. 30-Nov. 1.

5 Points NYC Music News

* Brooklyn punk/rock band Nakatomi Plaza have called it quit, but are releasing a new album, and playing some final shows after its 10 year history. More info here.

* Hardcore outfit Zombie Dogs have posted 4 songs off their upcoming 7 inch release on MySpace.

* Indie shoe-gazers Vivian Girls headline at Death by Audio this Tuesday with The Beets and Real Estate.

* Punk/pop outfit Lemuria have a new print available for pre-order here. The 7-color screen print on French Brand Banana Split 100lb with cover stock in a limited edition of 200 signed and numbered copies.

Lemuria "Pants" @ America, New Brunswick 6/23/09


Lemuria returned from the U.K. with a show at the America house in Hub City. This was the third house show I’ve been to. Meat Town USA and Death City usually carry the show in town, so it was exciting to go to somewhere new. By the time opener, Jeff Erg went on around 7pm, the room was packed with people. I managed to squeeze up front. He played a few sweet acoustic songs. Full of Fancy was up next with a fun, punk set. You Without Teeth, a duo from New Brunswick played an interesting set of songs that sounded like a mix of screamo and punk. Valens were the heaviest band of the night, playing a brutal hardcore set. Changing the pace was Cheap Girls from Lansing, MI. They had the crowd moving and dancing around. They sounded like some 90s rock band I can't put my tongue on. I thoroughly enjoyed the set. It was nice, sweet pop rock.

Finally, around 10:15pm Lemuria made their way on the floor. They played at Maxwell's in Hoboken on June 7. It looked like the band wouldn't be coming around again, but with the help of some friends this show was organized. That's what great about these kind of shows. There's a lot of community involved. The shows may be a little hush hush, but it's exclusive. It's word of mouth and a bit of promotion. Despite this show being announced just a few days before, the room was filled with eager kids who wanted music. Lemuria played a fast set squeezing in "Hour," "Pants," "Dog," "Get Some Sleep," and "Mechanical," "Lipstick" and even a new song. It was a great set and it was cool seeing everyone having fun.

Music News: Tuesday, 6/23

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Tonight, Lemuria's playing at America in New Brunswick with Full of Fancy, You Without Teeth, Cheap Girls, Valens, and Jeff Erg. It should be a fun time.

Exit She Calls is entering the studio this week to record 3 new songs. The band also playing at Warped Tour Camden on July 17. They have shows before then, including one in Paramus this Saturday and a battle of the bands on July 12. Check out the update under "read more."

Screaming Females have a show this Sunday at Meat Town USA in New Brunswick. In other news, Marissa has made a new myspace page for her solo side project, Noun.

Shiragirl is playing a Ramones Tribute show on July 4th at Don Hills NYC. They recently recorded a new song "Sick Day."

Bomb the Music Industry! @ Knitting Factory, 6/24 review

A sense of camaraderie and unity filled the sold out tap bar space at Knitting Factory for the Bomb the Music Industry! show. All the bands were friends of each others, helped each other by sharing equipment, and all provided some type of punk music that proved to be a fun time.

Cheeky, a 4-piece from NY played upbeat/ garage punk that really got me pumping my fist in the air and bobbing my head. They played songs off their Choke on a Cheeseburger ep, notably “Get Outta Here,” which closed the set.

Bridge and Tunnel featured an indie/ rock punk brand of dual female/male vocals. They put on a great set. It sounds like their influences are Cursive and Hot Water Music.

Lemuria was lighter than the other bands. The vocalists sounded okay at points, but I couldn’t here the vocals too well. Singer Sheena said how thankful she is to be on the show with some awesome bands. Her vocals reminded me of Crissie of Element 101. The show toned down at this point, but it was lovely.

The Ergs! From New Brunswick, New Jersey were up next. They were a band I remember reading about on Jersey Beat, and whom Jim Testa and my friend said I would enjoy. Boy, were they right. The band had the crowd all over the place, dancing and having a ton of fun. There was even crowd surfing and someone pretty much climbed the ceiling, ha. Fun, fun passionate punk.

Bomb the Music Industry! played an overall great punk set, despite some problems. They came on unprepared and with broken equipment. They started rather out of sorts. It picked up and the music was fun, but everything was random and I got turned off from them. There were a bunch of hardcore fans that danced through the entire set and sang along, which was nice. BMTI make all its music free. You can find the download link on their MySpace page.
