Screaming Females, No Pasaran, Ben Franklin, Eula in Kearny, NJ on May 6th

I'm pleased to announce my former hometown of Kearny, NJ will witness a quadruple shot of rock when Screaming Females, No Pasaran, Ben Franklin, and Eula come to play there on May 6th. It's a Friday, one of the best days to go out, so why not catch a show? If the weather turns out nice that evening I'm going to plan a bike ride starting in Newark to the venue, The Irish at 95 Kearny Ave, a short 15-20 minute breeze of a ride. This show is being put together by the good folks at Killing Horse Records ,who house Ben Franklin and No Pasaran. Ben Franklin just dropped their wicked good 7'' single called Urgency and No Pasaran is in the studio working on their 7'' single to be released this summer. Eula is coming out from CT for this gig. I haven't heard them but the Facebook invite calls them noisey post-punk, which sounds good to me. Screaming Females, of course will bring the sweet licks and dancey bass for a dashing rock 'n' roll live show that will leave a jaw-dropping impression. 10 beans for this one.

Advance tickets here: http://www.ticketfly.com/event/33605/

Facebook Invite: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=157130091013067

UPDATE: My bike group has planned a ride to Kearny. Tonight, May 6, at 7pm. Meet at Beaver Street (between Broad and Mulberry) in Newark. Details with the route and map here: http://www.brickcitybikecollective.org/archives/810

Ben Franklin releasing new 7-inch, playing in Montclair this Saturday

Ben Franklin is an awesome rock 'n roll punk band from Brooklyn you do not know, but hopefully soon will. With hooky, guitar driving melodies, and punky chords with urgent political, in-your-face lyrics, this trio is ready to make a fuss. 2 dude guitarists, 1 lady drummer. You'll be bopping around and singing to their tunes. Okay, so what's going on with the band?

First, they'll release new music in the form of a 7'' vinyl record, a follow-up to their Optimist full-length, which you can to here that showcases their new direction. It'll be out on Kearny based label Killing Horse Records (¡No Pasaran!, Invisible Lines) later this fall.

Second, the band is playing in Montclair, NJ this Saturday with Black Water (featuring members of lead singer Billy of Ben Franklin's former band the Meltdown's), plus The Micks and The Porchistas. They'll debut a new band member and play some new songs. Tierney's Tavern, 136-138 Valley Road, Montclair, NJ 07042. 21+. 8:30pm. $5. Cheap show with some great bands. Good deal, eh?

We Are Country Mice & Ben Franklin @ Piano's NYC 9-3-09, reviews and pics

All photos by StarBeat

Ben Franklin @ Piano's

The Piano's crowd on Sept. 3rd were greeted with a treat, as We Are Country Mice and (We Are) Ben Franklin would put on rockin' performances. We Are County Mice sets was jammy and groovy with a nice dose of rock 'n roll, definitely a great act to watch live to.

Ben Franklin played their cd release party for OPTIMIST! Besides having free screen printed copies of the cd and stickers, the band put on amazingly moving, punk rock n roll set. The three piece of Billy on vocals and guitar, Ed on bass and vocals, and Sarah on drums and vocals play in your face songs with a good punch. The band is very energetic and it's good to see Billy totally getting into it. "Ghosts" and "Timmeh" are two songs worth checking out. The whole album is available for stream here or download it for free here.
