Cobalt & the Hired Guns play in NYC on Friday

Cobalt & the Hired Guns is a cool, Chicago based band that plays "punk Americana with horns." They are a fun little band that you'd be into if you dig The Hold Steady, The E-Street Band, Say Anything or Motion City Soundtrack. The lead song on their album Everyone Wins 'Like You Like Me Like Me" is a great song about trying to figure out if someone "likes" you or just likes you like a friend. " A secret you keep makes you weak in the knees /Bit my lip till it bleeds, but keep it concrete."

They play this Friday at Bowery Electric in NYC with Futurist, Bam and Xylofaux. More info here: http://www.theboweryelectric.com/futurist-cobalt-the-hired-gunsbam-xylofaux

You can listen to their fun jams here: http://cobaltandthehiredguns.bandcamp.com/

Live Review: DeVotchka @ Bowery Electric 4-27-10 + Photos

By M.M

Without knowing who DeVotchka is, one can get easily fooled into thinking they are a big band. Quite the contrary. There may have been a dozen or so instruments on stage at Bowery Electric, but only 4 members are in the band. However, pretty much all of the instruments were utilized throughout the show, some musicians even played two instruments during one song (not at the same time, though). The Denver, Colorado band is best described from their biography as a "multi-instrumental and vocal ensemble that fuses Romani, Greek, Slavic, Bolero, Mariachi music with American punk and folk roots." Surely these are some talented musicians.
