The Everymen to release new LP on Oct. 9 on Killing Horse Records, free song download available

Rock'N'Roll gets hardcore when The Everymen are involved. It's exciting to report that Killing Horse Records will be releasing The Everymen's new album, New Jersey Hardcore, on October 9 as a 12'' Vinyl, and CD, and of course digitally. I'm a sucker for the dual co-ed vocals, as well as a good saxophone and frantic r'n'r. This is KHR's 14th release but 1st 12'' vinyl record. Ok, I'll stop nerding out about numbers for a sec and let you know that this band is a 7-piece (oops, did it anyway) rock'n'roll band from the Jersey Shore. Yep, that's right, they know how to have fun.

“Like X if they were from Jersey.” “ They're Jersey Skynyrd! “ “Half Springsteen, half Stooges.”  “A Jersey Shore Jay Reatard.”

Aaron Scott (Attica Attica) creates house show project, launches compilation

Aaran Scott of Attica Attica has created a project called "Please Don't Hang Out in Front of the House" dedicated to house shows. This came as a response to Red Bull's Noise Complaint basement show in New Brunswick, which eventually moved to The Court Tavern. He issued a challenge: musicians had two weeks to create songs in response to this. What came of it was a 21 song compilation cd. The site itself features photos and stories on house shows. Take a look:

Aaron P (of Chairlift) starts Rewards, touring with Warpaint (mp3's, tour dates)

Aaron Pfenning co-founder of the band Chairlift has taken it solo. His new music is called Rewards. Aaron plays all the instruments, plus produces and engineers all the music. He's currently touring in the U.K. with Brooklyn's own We Are Scientists and will come back to the U.S. for an east coast run with L.A's Warpaint.  Make sure to check him out in the stellar sounding Studio or Music Hall. His songs are sunny pleasant, pop with synthesized rhythms, and '80s dark wave vibes. Pretty nice compliment to Warpaint!

Dec 2 - Music Hall of Williamsbug - Brooklyn, NY [info]

The So So Glos are staying true to their DIY roots as they release their new 5-song EP, Low Back Chain Shift on Oct. 12 via Green Owl. The band is touring the 5 boroughs from Oct. 21-25, including an Oct. 22 Force Field PR CMJ showcase at Piano's. These shows look mighty packed, fun, and awesome.
Along the way, the Glos have earned a reputation for a ripping live show, which they've brought to all-ages clubs, fans' kitchens, scene fundraisers and traditional venues alike. They've also constructed (literally) a new performance space and HQ, Shea Stadium, which has hosted punk rock fetes as well as overnight dance parties with Danceteria and avant 1980s DJs. October brings a fresh EP recorded at the Rare Book Room by Nicolas Vernhes (Deerhunter, Fiery Furnaces, Animal Collective). Naturally, it's named Low Back Chain Shift, after a distinct facet of the New York drawl.

Darren Hanlon (free download, tour dates including CMJ & Corin Tucker)

DOWNLOAD: Darren Hanlon- All These Things

It's hard not to love Darren Hanlon's accent. His Australian voice is pleasant. When he sings it's lovely. "Staying locked inside all day is no big deal...those things will follow you...their lights will shine bright through..." he sings on "All These Things." The consistent guitar strum is wonderful. The song is from his  folk-rock-pop album, I Will Love You At All.

The record, recorded by Adam Selzer (M Ward, She & Him, The Decemberists), features Rachel Blumberg (Bright Eyes, M Ward, She & Him, The Decemberists) on drums, as well as longtime Portland-based collaborator Cory Gray (Carcrashlander, Norfolk and Western) on keys, was created away from Hanlon’s native home, and was partially written in the studio—a departure for the artist. Reinforcing the album’s sweet nature are more of Portland’s finest—dual female vocalists Shelley Short and Alia Farah.
He'll perform at Bowery Electric for CMJ on Oct. 21 and 22, and then open for Corin Tucker on Oct. 26 at the esteemed Bowery Ballroom.

See below for tour dates.

Introducing: Stephen Paul Smoker (former musician for mewithoutYou)

Smoker's music is a soothing pulsating
'Violent Sun/Violent Fun'

Stephen Paul Smoker, formerly a touring musician for mewithoutYou, The Mint, and Grace Kulp, is now playing his own music in the Chicago area. His new 6-song EP Violent Sun/Violent Fun features a light air of harmony with vocals that are both soothing and weird. The album features strange arrangements and haunting piano. This is definitely not your typical indie rock record. My favorite line is: "will you stop worrying."

Australian duo The Fumes playing 4 NYC shows, new album out

Two piece rock n' roll bands seem to be all the rage nowadays. There's Japandroids, JEFF: the Brotherhood, The Naked Heroes, and Trophy Wife, among others. But now there's the Fumes, a gritty bluesy rock duo from Australia. The band's new album Automobile dropped this week and features 14 songs that'll comfort your blues.

The Fumes play two back-to-back 10pm shows at Rockwood Music Hall's stage 2 this Thursday and Friday. That's followed by two Brooklyn dates. Sept. 1st they're at D.I.Y venue Death By Audio, then a gig gig at Rock Shop with Black Bells and TAB: the band (Joe Perry of Aerosmith's son's band who are opening up on the Stone Temple Pilots tour). Tickets are only $8 here. Get out to a show. It looks to be pretty gnarly.

Free Download: Hurray for the Riff Raff + Tour Dates (including Brooklyn)

Hurray for the Riff Raff is a New Orleans based folk/blues rock trio. Some background:

The band started when a teenaged Alynda Lee Segarra began hopping trains, traveling across the country while learning to play banjo. Eventually she settled in New Orleans, and allowed music to take hold of her life. She quickly embraced the city's community of street musicians, who encouraged her to develop her banjo skills and sing old jazz songs. She was soon performing with traditional jazz bands on the sidewalks of the French Quarter, playing and singing while learning from the music of the city she loves.
They bring delicate wanderings of old souls and spirits from the past into the wide open spaces of consciousness. They are influenced by the sounds of classic country like Hank Williams Sr, 1960's Rock n Roll, and master singer/songwriters like Townes Van Zandt and Neil Young.

"Slow Walk" is from the band's latest album Young Blood Blues, released on August 1st.

They perform at Coco 66 in Brooklyn on Oct. 15 with Sam Doores and the Tumbleweeds. Full tour dates below.

Album Review: Kagero creates romantic 'Japanese Gypsy Rock'

Kagero- Japanese Gypsy Rock
Electroacoustic/ Flamenco/Rock
Brooklyn, NY
Unsigned

DOWNLOAD: Kagero- My Little Bonita

For fans of: Gogol Bordello, Jose Gonzalez, Acacia Orchestra, gypsy rock

Kagero sounds good. That's no exaggeration. The all-Japanese trio play a style of music that one may not expect. Their debut album, Japanese Gypsy Rock, also an apt description for them highlights the band's diverse influences. They create a concocation of pretty music. Music you can slow dance to. Music you can kiss to. Music you can fall in love with. Romantic music. This romantic tone is apparent in the first song "My Little Bonita." Singer Rob sings "I'm still crazy for you." Short and simple. The words radiate closely to your heart. The acoustic and violin is sweet. The vocals are lovely and crisp. The song is definitely bonita (beautiful). If you like flamenco and Gogol Bordello, then this band is for you! Every song is a gem. The album is available on the band's website here.

If this sounds like the kind of band you want to see, check them out this Thursday, Aug. 26th at The Saint in Asbury Park, NJ with Psychedelphia. 601 Main St, Asbury Park, NJ 07712. 8pm. $8, $13. 18+.  Advance tickets available here.

Band line-up and tracklisting below.

Amy Bezunartea (free "Doubles" MP3 + new album out in November)

FREE DOWNLOAD: Amy Bezunartea- Doubles

Amy Bezunartea could sing a baby to sleep. She could make you cry with her soft voice. She could relieve your stress. Her lyrics only cementing the feeling of sadness. "Doubles" is a sad, yet heartfelt song about her "baby" working too many double shifts at work. The song itself is about her baby-- a lovely someone she has in her life, it seems. This Brooklyn singer songwriter is delicate in the best way with this single. The lyrics are slow and clear and so lovely, that I felt the need to trascribe them (see below).

The single is from Bezunartea's upcoming release on Kiam Records titled Restaurants and Bars, due out on November 2nd. Grab a free download of the song by left clicking and then hitting "save as." You can simply stream the song by clicking the link.
