Hank & Cupcakes is a 2-piece from Brooklyn, NY with a danceable sound that is pleasant, catchy, funky, and even soulful. Hank is on bass and Cupcakes is on drums and vocals. The only other band I've heard whose drummer is the main vocalist/front person is 2 Cents, so this is pretty neat. For an unsigned band this duo have kept active in the NY music scene, playing shows nearly weekly.
This weekend they play three shows in NYC. On Friday, Feb. 26 they will perform a free show at Best Buy, Union Square from 5-6pm, then Crash Mansion for New York Underbelly's 5th Anniversary Party at 11pm. The Crash party is free, too, but RSVP is required here. Finally, on Saturday, Feb. 27 the band is at Music Hall of Williamsburg. This show is night of short film and music also with Emanuel and the Fear. Tickets are only $7 for those 18+. More info is available here.
