Gold Motel release "Safe In LA" video, announce new tour dates

Video still of Gold Motel's Greta Morgan

Gold Motel has released a new music video for "Safe in L.A." from the band's latest album Summer House. It's up at SPIN.com today. The catchy bass line hooks you in and the bright/dark color contrasts of the video make for a great look and hot track! The whole album is really lovely. Soft. Melodic. Sweet. Indie Pop that bursts with a warm, summer jam feeling. The keys add a nice vibe to the rockin' songs and some extra energy. Additionally, the band's entire album is up for stream on their MySpace.

Also, make sure to check out "Fireworks at Midnight." It begins: "Once we were careless kids on the 4th of July, while we watched the fireworks, 20 years went by." Now that's a line to hear on this holiday weekend.

The band have a few dates lined up in NYC and Philly. First is July 26th at NYC's Angels and Kings. Then July 29th at The Fire in Philly and July 31st at Don Hills. Opening up is Mark Rose, fellow Chicago native, and ex-Spitalfield singer.

Live Review: Gold Motel @ Maxwells in Hoboken 5-6-10 w/ Family of the Year

 Gold Motel
Photos & words by Christine Wagenheim

The theme for the night must have been “energy,” because that is what the bands I saw at Maxwell's for the night gave. The first band up was Family of the Year, who had plenty of pep and kept me entertained. It was a great start for what would be a fun night. Next up was Gold Motel, a Chicago based band fronted by Greta Morgan of The Hush Sound. This show was the last of three dates in the NY/NJ area for them, but you wouldn't be able to tell based on the energetic show they gave their audience. They opened with "Summer House," a fun, clap-inducing number that even had me drop my camera long enough to clap along. Right off the bat they proved to be energetic and dancy. They played a bunch of songs off their new album, which sounds like it is worth a listen if this sample was any indication. They even broke out a tambourine for one or two numbers. Between that and the drummers intense beats, I got tired just watching them. They really put a lot of energy into their performance. They slowed it down a bit about midway through their set, as if they were taking a breath before diving back into the water. Their lively performance would build back up though, and a couple of songs later we would be back to dancing our hearts out. If you have never heard of this band before I suggest you fix that as soon as possible. They are a fun mix of dance and energy that will make you smile when you need it most. They ended with "Perfect In My Mind," and that is how I would describe the night.

Gold Motel (f/ Greta of the Hush Sound) playing in NJ/NYC from May 4-6 + Music Video & Tour Dates

Gold Motel, featuring Greta Morgan from Chicago's The Hush Sound, is performing in NJ and NYC from May 4-6. The band is headlining Brooklyn's Knitting Factory on May 4, playing  NYC's Mercury Lounge on May, and opening for Givers at Maxwell's on May 5. These shows are with Family of the Year.

The band have their new EP streaming on MySpace plus new song "We're on the Run." They also released a music video for "Perfect in My Mind" (see below) directed by Eddie O'Keefe. The band's Gold Motel EP features 5 rockin', indie pop songs with smooth lyrics. The band's melodic sound coupled with the driving keyboard make the band a nice listen. Recommended for fans of fun., Eisley, Company of Thieves, and of course The Hush Sound. The band's full-length album, Summer House, will be released on June 1.
