Gatherer: crushing post-hardcore from Bayonne
Gatherer has a sick 4-song EP out called Postcards that's reminiscent of Saetia, Touche Amore, La Dispute and Modern Life is War. It's available on 7'' through new Virginia label Glass Nail Records. You can hear the ache of frustration in the singer's voice that stretches to an intensity that emotionally compelling. This is a keeper.
Keep your head up hide though your hearts in the ground. I'll give you a call the next time I'm around. - from Gatherer's song "Jones Beach"

Album Review: Chambers get heavy with 'Old Love'
Chambers- Old Love
Union, NJ
Self-Released
Release Date: June 22, 2010
By Star Child
When I first saw Chambers open for Gallows in a outrageously, but to be expected, pipping hot basement in New Brunswick last July, I thought the band was pretty good for an opening act. The door guy nicely handed me a wrist band for myself and fellow friends to attend the show. I had no idea that the guy was Chamber's Dan Pelic and he lived at the house. I also had no idea that my first time seeing them was the band's first show. I impressed. The band has been playing shows locally ever since and in less than a year's time has its first full-length out. So enough background, let's get to the review.
Metal fans. Hardcore fans. Punk fans. Rejoice. Jersey locals Chambers delivers an album to satisfy all your tastes. On Old Love, the band maintain the heaviness of metal, the attitude of hardcore, and the edge of punk. Simply put this is a heavy album with angry undertones, driving rhythms, and chuggy riffs with an anthemic vibe. "Ripper" is a good example of the band's fueling sound. Heavy riffs. Beasty vocals. "Old Love" squeals on. Singer Pelic screams "You're fucking dead to me." "Crap Out " is driving with some clean vocals. "The Nest" is on the heaviest and angriest songs on the albums. There's a chuggy riff midway through the song and one of the most notable lines goes: "I lived to hurt you/And my chambers are your fucking vice." These 11 songs don't let up. These songs rip.
Old Love is available across digial retailers: I-tunes, Rhapsody, MySpace Music, Amazon, EMUSIC, LALA, IMVU, Amie St, Shockhound.com, Nokia Music Store and the Lime Wire Store.
Also, make sure to call up WSOU 89.5 FM and request "The Ripper." 973-761-9768 (WSOU)

Punch/Death First @ Death By Audio 7-24-09
This past Friday I attended a hardcore/punk show featuring Punch, Nomos, Olde Ghost, and Death First at Death by Audio in Brooklyn. Hardcore is a genre of music that is very intense, fast, short, and honest. Last time I was at Death by Audio for a hardcore show Zombie Dogs, Deathrats, and others played but nobody moved around. It would be different this time as there was 2-stepping, jumping, and moshing present, especially for San Fransisco's female fronted 5-piece, Punch. However, my only complaint is that while these songs, as great as they are, stir up all this moving, the songs are far too short and often end quite abruptly. I want there to be practically non-stop moving and for the energy to hardly let up. But it was a good show, as short as it was.
More videos from the show can be viewed here.

Blacklisted @ Knitting Factory, NYC 6/8
Being alone at a hardcore show isn’t as bad as I thought it would be, as I came to experience tonight after seeing Blacklisted, Ceremony, Life Long Tragedy, and Sabertooth Zombie in an early night performance at Knitting Factory in NYC. It went down at the club’s 200 capacity tap bar space. The audience was ready and pumped to witness the onslaught of these bands.I missed the first band Condominium, but caught most of Sabertooth Zombie, whose brand of hardcore, surprisingly included a real rock n’ roll vibe with punk sounds to. Next was Life Long Tragedy where kids started jumping on each other, close to the foot high stage, hanging from the ceiling, two stepping, and shaking heads. It was with LLT where I saw the crowd really come alive. Ceremony came on motivating with its fast and short songs, causing me to move around and shake a bit at points during the intro and sweet bass parts. Blacklisted closed with a short, but energetic set, playing songs exclusively off their latest release, “Heavier Than Heaven, Lonelier Than God.”
I enjoyed watching the crowd get into it, screaming lyrics, and dancing around. I just wished the band would quickly flow from song to the next. I wanted to keep moving, but felt awkward when all of a sudden the music would stop and I had to get back into it again. But, it was great to finally experience a show at the tap bar for the first time. It was such a release. I needed this show.
