The Starland Ballroom to reopen in September

After 10 months since The Starland Ballroom was forced to close its doors due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy, the venue will finally reopen this September. Upcoming shows include two nights of Taking Back Sunday, Hatebreed, Saves the Day, two nights of Streelight Manifesto and Clutch.

Thursday Announce NJ Holiday Show

Thursday are at it again. They continue their annual holiday show at New Jersey's The Starland Ballroom. This time for their Full Collapse 10th Anniversary Show. They'll perform the album in its entireity plus the hits. Opening is Four Year Strong gand Acid Tiger (featuring touring musician for Thursday and United Nations member Lucas Previn). The show is Dec. 30th and goes on sale Friday at noon. Tickets are just $19.50 for this special event.

Update: "As a tribute to the legendary New Brunswick, New Jersey underground music scene, Red Bull presents Noise Complaint. Bands from around the world will compete to play their very own New Brunswick basement show on October 28th. Four will be chosen to play, with one final winner moving on to open for Thursday at Starland Ballroom on December 30th." More info here.

Brick & Mortar opening for Jimmy World Eat on Sept. 24

Tom's River, New Jersey's reggae-rock funk duo Brick and Mortar is opening for Jimmy Eat World at The Starland Ballroom on Sept. 24th. Tickets for this awesome pairing are available here.

Alkaline Trio to perform in NYC tonight due to flood damage at The Starland Ballroom

This past weekend the NJ/ NYC area witnessed some serious downpours that results in some flooding in and around Sayreville, NJ where concert venue The Starland Ballroom was forced to cancel two shows. The Alkaline Trio/ Cursive show that was scheduled for Saturday got canceled due to flooding in the building and roads being cut off.

Alkaline Trio's show was originally re-scheduled for tonight, but the damage was too severe to allow the concert to go on safely. The band is performing tonight at Gramercy Theatre in New York City instead. Doors open at 6:45pm and tickets are $20 at the door.

The Starland Ballroom was also forced to cancel this Friday's Cavo show until June 13. Refunds are available at point of purchase. Details available here: http://starlandballroom.com/?p=events

Sebastian Bach & E-Town Concrete return to The Starland Ballroom + upcoming shows

The Starland Ballroom have announced two new shows. First is Sebastian Bach on Feb.6 and the second is a St. Valentine's Day Massacre with E-Town Concrete on Feb. 13. Both are on-sale Friday at noon.

Other shows at Starland include Life of Agony performing River Runs Red in its entirety on Nov. 28, Jerseyshows.com semi final featuring bands from across the garden state including Eden*Star, Outnumbered, Split Point, and more on Nov. 29, a holiday show featuring Thursday, The Dillinger Escape Plan, United Nations, and more on Dec. 30, and a New Year's Eve party with Clutch, Doomriders, Murder 1 and more.

Five Finger Death Punch & Otep, NJ 10/11



Starland Ballroom ignited last Sunday night on October 11, when Five Finger Death Punch, Shadow's Fall, Otep, and 2 Cents performed together as part of the "Shock and Raw" tour. The line-up might sound familiar to those that saw Five Finger Death Punch the last time they played in Jersey. The reason is because this same line-up minus 2 Cents was in town last April for WSOU's 60th anniversary concert also featuring Unearth and A Life Once Lost.

Fans came back seemingly thrilled for the line-up, especially since everyone excluding 2 Cents had new albums out. Five Finger Death Punch released their sophomore album, War is the Answer and Shadows Fall released Retribution both in September and Otep released Smash the Control Machine back in August. Sure enough, the venue was packed. Even pulling up to the parking lot at 7pm, there was a long line up people waiting to get in. The night was filled was metal, crowd surfing, and most pits, of course, but also chants, and cover songs.

2 Cents hit the stage at 7:20pm, but I only caught two songs, their hit "Wedding Dress" and a cover of Pantera. The band sent out the song to the late Dimebag Daryl. It was interesting seeing the singer also playing drums. They had a great rock n roll driving punk sound.

Otep always put on a tight set. Even when Otep isn't feeling well she still manages to give it her all. At one point it looked like she was using an inhaler. But the crowd seemed ready. The Otep chants began. They started off with "Confrontation" and some oldies off Sevas Tra. They also squeezed in one new song and of course their cover of Nirvana's "Breed."

Shadows Fall played a good set, but for a fan like me that heard them early in their career I was bumped that they only played one older song. They mostly seemed to play from their new and last albums. One new song that got the crowd pumped was "A Public Execution" where the band curses for what seems the first time, screaming "Fuck it all." The lyrics speak to those that are tired of conforming to things, at least just from those lines. Sometimes you can't really care about things, so you let it go. It was great seeing Brian headbanging with his massive dreadlocks

Five Finger Death Punch played a good mix of new and old material which spanned a 90 minute set. Lead singer Ivan Moody seemed to pull into his tough guy attitude. He wore a bullet proof vest and joked about opening for Shadows Fall last time. But overall 5FDP had a tight set and the lyrics are pretty great. The music is driving, catchy,yet heavy. Ivan also said "Thank you for giving me my soul" and also made a shout out to Otep saying "Nobody throws down like that girl except you." Of course he also thanked all the bands for being on the tour and referred to Otep as the "princess of poetry and pain." They closed if off with "The Bleeding."

Each band managed to slip in a cover song into their set. 2 Cents did Pantera, Otep did Nirvana, Shadow's Fall did a snippet of a Pantera riff, and Five Finger Death Punch did Bad Company. It was great to see these bands remembering the roots of the music and dedicating the songs to these aspired musicians. It was a great night!

The Starland Ballroom have announced 3 new shows. The rumors can be put to rest. The venue have announced their New Year's Eve show and it's going to be groovy.

Life of Agony to perform "River Runs Red" in Sayreville, NJ on Nov. 28

Life of Agony, the hard rock Brooklyn 4-piece will perform their breakthrough album River Runs Red at the Starland Ballroom on Nov. 28, in celebration of the band's 20th anniversary. The band formed in 1989 and released their debut River Runs Red featuring such hits as "Underground," "Bad Seed," and "My Eyes." The album was release in Oct. 1993 on Roadrunner Records.

After River Runs Red the band released Ugly in 1995, Soul Searching Sun in 1997, and in 1999 the band split. But in 2003 the band returned playing two sold out shows at New York's Irving Plaza. In 2005, the band released "Broken Valley."

Life of Agony currently features Keith Caputo on vocals and keyboards, Alan Robert on bass and backing vocals, Joey Z on guitars and backing vocals and Sal Abruscato on drums.

More details on the New Jersey show will be announced shortly.

Update: 10:46am Tickets for this all ages show are on-sale this Friday at noon. Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 the day of the show.

Starland Ballroom announces 2 new hip-hop & rock shows

The Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ has great news for fans of hip-hop and punk rock icons. Snopp Dogg and Method Man, and Redman on Oct. 28 and Danzig and Gorgeous Frankenstein featuring Doyle on Dec. 26. Tickets are on-sale this Friday at noon.

O.A.R. to perform at new MAC at Monmouth University on Nov. 8, on-sale Sept. 25

Yesterday at 4:51pm The Starland Ballroom left a cryptic update on Facebook: "heard something about a new venue opening..." Then earlier today they revealed a photo of what looked like a building. Many wondered is this the new venue? What is this picture? Well, Starland has announced a new show at a new venue! O.A.R. live at the new MAC at Monmouth University on Nov. 8th! The show is on-sale Friday, Sept. 25th at 10am. Check out the facebook event here.

Located at the center of Monmouth University’s beautiful 156-acre campus, the 153,200-square-foot ‘MAC’ (an acronym for Multipurpose Activity Center) houses a 4,100-seat competition arena; a 200-meter, six-lane indoor track; locker rooms; educational and conference space; ground-level bookstore; and fitness center.

The new MAC held its ribbon cutting ceremony today at 3pm. The new space is located at 400 Cedar Avenue in West Long Branch, New Jersey. More info available here.

Silverstein have announced a U.S. tour. The band will be touring with Madina Lake, I See Stars, Closure in Moscow, and Word Alive on the last leg of the tour with a stop in NY and NY. The first is Nov. 13 at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY and Nov. 14 at The Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ.

HardDrive Live Tour Dates: All That Remains, Lacuna Coil, NJ & NYC

All That Remains will headline the HARDDRIVELIVE TOUR this fall. HardDrive is a nationally syndicated radio show that will be sponsering the tour. The 40 date North American tour features Lacuna Coil and Maylene & The Sons of Disaster for the full tour and From Sword to Sunrise and Taking Dawn on two separate legs. The tour kicks off in Albany on September 22nd.

AFI, Bo Burnham, & The Alternative Press Fall Ball come to Starland Ballroom

The Starland Ballroom have announced new show with AFI, Bo Burnham, and the Academy Is. On Oct. 10 its AFI and Gallows. Tickets are on-sale Saturday at 10am. The show is $28.50 in advance, $30 day of show.

If you're going to miss comedian Bo Burnham at All Points West this weekend, then you'll have to wait until Nov. 6 when he performs again in NJ. Tickets are on-sale Friday August 7th at noon. Standing room general admission is $19.50, while seated admission is $25.

10 for $10 Summer Tour f/ Vision of Disorder & Poison the Well, NJ on 8/8

Alternative Press reports that:

This summer Poison the Well will be headlining the entire 10 for $10 tour. The idea behind the tour is to keep the ticket price affordable in the ailing economy. Tim Borror, of The Agency Group, who helped put the tour together said the "tour is important because hardcore music is a lifestyle and has been an inspiration to the people who get involved and know what the movement and music is all about. In the last few years the crowds have been a bit smaller than what they should be and we hope an idea like this where kids are getting an opportunity to check out a lot of bands for cheap will inspire some new kids to come out, get involved and become a part of this scene to help it grow".

The other bands on the tour include Terror, Death Before Dishonor, War Of Ages, Crime In Stereo, Trapped Under Ice, The Mongoloids, The Ghost Inside, This Is Hell and Vision, and on separate legs of the tour Madball, Bane and Vision Of Disorder will be sharing headlining spots.

The tour stops at The Starland Ballroom on Saturday, August 8th and features vision of Disorder, Poison the Well, Terror, Vision, War of Ages, The Ghost Inside, The Mongloids, Trapped Under Ice, Crime in Stereo, and This Is Hell. Tickets are on-sale Friday at noon here. Tour dates below.

West Gate to perform with Powerman 5000

New Jersey's alternative rock 5-piece West Gate will be performing at The Starland Ballroom this Saturday with Powerman 5000. This is the band's biggest show and it's sure to be a great one. Doors are at 4:30pm, so make sure to come out at check out all the bands performing. Last year the band released its 4 song ep Selah. The songs are available at the band's myspace page.

West Gate also have two other shows coming. March 21 at Sonar Metalfest with Soilwork and Darkest Hour in Baltimore, MD and May 1, where the band returns to Jersey with Article A at Darress Theater in Boonton.
