Thursday are at it again. They continue their annual holiday show at New Jersey's The Starland Ballroom. This time for their Full Collapse 10th Anniversary Show. They'll perform the album in its entireity plus the hits. Opening is Four Year Strong gand Acid Tiger (featuring touring musician for Thursday and United Nations member Lucas Previn). The show is Dec. 30th and goes on sale Friday at noon. Tickets are just $19.50 for this special event.
Update: "As a tribute to the legendary New Brunswick, New Jersey underground music scene, Red Bull presents Noise Complaint. Bands from around the world will compete to play their very own New Brunswick basement show on October 28th. Four will be chosen to play, with one final winner moving on to open for Thursday at Starland Ballroom on December 30th." More info here.
Thursday is entering the studio to records its sixth album. As one of my favorite bands, not just in the post-hardcore realm, this is pleasing news. The band's most recent tour was opening for Converge in early May.
The band will spend the next few months recording at Tarbox Road Studios in Fredonia, NY with Common Existence and A City by the Light Divided producer Dave Fridmann (MGMT, The Flaming Lips, Mogwai) and plan to release the new album in spring 2011.
"We've worked with Dave Fridmann before, but this is definitely the most we've ever clicked with him," says singer Geoff Rickly. "In style, this record feels like a radical departure from our earlier records but in substance it feels like a return. The songs are more vulnerable than they've been in a long time. Some of the song titles include "A Darker Forest" and "Little Sparks Against the Sun"... It's very atmospheric and mood oriented so far." (via MySpace)

The 8th Annual Monty Love Xmas Spectacular on Dec. 19 at Dock Street in Staten Island. While Thursday has been quiet most of the year, they picked things up in September when they embarked on a national tour with The Fall of Troy and released the deluxe edition of Common Existence that included 5 previously unreleased songs, and released the video for "Circuits of Fever." Last year the band did not have their annual holiday show, only a show in December in Connecticut with The Sleeping and Moving Mountains. But that has changed this year. Thursday is making noise.
On Sunday the band performed all of Full Collapse at Bowery Ballroom on a bill that included FAR and Midnight Masses. In December the band tour with The Dillinger Escape Plan, Fake Problems, and Endless Hallway.
Come Dec. 30 Thursday, Glassjaw, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and United Nations will play one show together at The Starland Ballroom for the holiday season. Expect mayhem to ignite with a mega line-up like that. Tickets are on-sale this Friday at noon.

New Jersey’s Thursday and Dillinger Escape Plan will tour with Florida’s Fake Problems and LA's Endless Hallway beginning in December for a 2 week tour. From Dec. 4th starting in Farmingdale, NY to Dec. 19th ending in Cambridge, MA the four bands will serve up an eclectic mix of post-hardcore, math metal, folk punk, and rock for your listening pleasure. Both Thursday and Dillinger Escape grew up playing basement show in New Brunswick. In fact, Dillinger Escape Plan went back to their roots and played a New Brunswick basement show this past February. There’s no word if Thursday will play their traditional New Jersey holiday show.
Thursday is currently on tour with The Fall of Troy. They played shows with Kiss Kiss, Moving Mountains, and Young Widows. Unfortunately Young Widows had to drop off the tour. They have shows left with Touche Amore, La Dispute, The Dear Hunter, and Midnight Masses. They’ll wrap up the tour with a sold out show at Bowery Ballroom on Oct. 25 with recently reunited rockers Far. After they head to Spain and the U.K for some dates, then head on tour with Dillinger Escape Plan. There are plenty of PA and NY dates.

Thursday 9-20-09 New Brunswick's post-hardcore stalwarts Thursday filled the Bowery Ballroom for a night that also included The Fall of Troy, Young Widows, Moving Mountains, and Kiss Kiss. The band played a tight 12 song set and 2 encore songs including 4 off Common Existence and oldie "Paris in Flames," which lead singer Geoff Rickly said the band hasn't played in a while. It was a great show in an intimate setting. The last time the band played NYC was last summer at Terminal 5 with Hot Water Music. The band returns to Bowery on Oct. 25th for a sold out show with Far and Midnight Masses. They'll play Full Collapse in its entirety.

New Brunswick's post hardcore veterans, Thursday have announced a headlining tour in support of their latest album, Common Existence with Washington's progressive screamo band, Fall of Troy. Other acts of the tour include noise rockers Young Widows, New York's progressive rockers Moving Mountains, circus punksters Kiss Kiss, hardcore act Touche Amore from Los Angelos, The Dear Hunter and Midnight Masses. The Fall of Troy will be touring in support of their new album, In the Unlikely Event, and are on the entire tour with select bands on different legs of the tour.
The tour stops at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on Sept. 20. Tickets are on-sale Friday Aug. 8 at noon here.
Also, Geoff Rickley aka DJ Jazzy Geoff will be the guest DJ at the new Beauty Bar in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn on Wednesday, August 12. Geoff said:

Today I launched a new MySpace page for my promotional endeavors. I also changed the about me section. Star Beat will focus on New Jersey music, but still update you on bands from across the globe. What sparked this direction was seeing basements show in New Brunswick and realizing how much independent, DIY acts are out there in NJ that are worthy of exposure. Also, being from New Jersey I feel that the state deserves more coverage. My friends tell me they don't know what's going on in Jersey. So many of them flock to NYC for everything music. I must admit I rarely go to shows in NJ because of lack of transportation, mostly. I always hear about what's going on in NYC and being in Newark, the city is a PATH train away. But I want to uncover the music scene is New Jersey, starting with the basement shows in New Brunswick to the clubs to the bigger venues and even church shows, like the hardcore ones that are going on in Edison at the Stelton Church. There will be more media i.e. photos and video content I hope to include in this blog. Also, must shout out BrooklynVegan for inspiring me to do a blog like this. Enjoy one of New Brunswick's best. Thursday started out playing basement shows and in March they headline The Taste of Chaos Tour 2009, where they will perform at The Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ.

The spirit of punk rock was alive on July 12, 2008, a momentous day in the city that never sleeps, that hosted one of the best days of music in NYC this summer. Alkaline Trio and American Steel played The Fillmore at Irving Plaza, Trash Talk was at Knitting Factory, F Yeah Fest with Circle Jerks, Dillinger 4, Matt and Kim, and other was at Highline Ballroom, and Hot Water Music, Thursday, and Paint it Black were at Terminal 5, where I was for the evening. Oh, and Bon Jovi was about 16 blocks away playing the free Major League Baseball All-Star Concert at Central Park.
My first time at Terminal 5 proved to be fun, despite the poor sound and mediocre, unenthusiastic crowd during Thursday’s set, maybe it was the sound or that most folks came for Hot Water Music. As I stepped into the venue at 7pm, door time, the venue seemed empty. The floor space is huge, and there are three levels, which give you a nice view of the venue and monitors to see the show. I was snuggled tucked on the right side on the barricade for most of the show with a great view. Paint it Black from Philly was a fun hardcore band and a nice way to open up the show. Though I’m unfamiliar with their music I enjoyed them and they had a good amount of energy. I just wish I could hear the vocals. The singer explained mostly every song of the set, speaking with such passion. A few of the songs were political and about war. He also dedicated a song to the vegans and vegetarians and went into the crowd a few times, noting how he was going to kill himself over the size of the venue. Overall, tight set.
My friend and I anticipated seeing Thursday, a band dear and near to Jersey kids. It was a shame you could barely hear Geoff’s lovely vocals for most of the set. The band kicked it off with “For the workforce drowning,” a typical starter. Then they surprised a few by playing “Between Rupture and Rapture,” “and “Paris in Flames.” They did the two car songs, “The Other Side of the Crash” and “Understanding in a car crash,” which got the crowd moving. Then they toned it down with “Sugar in the Sacrament,” which was nicely done. Geoff announced that the band will be releasing a split with Envy in October and went into a new instrumental song, “In Silence.” “Tomorrow I’ll be You,” was also played to give the fans their money’s worth, as Geoff said. The closer was “Autobiography of a Nation,” a song Geoff said was influenced by Hot Water Music. You could see the outpouring of emotion Geoff showed and his appreciation for playing with one of his influences. The last time Thursday played in NYC was with Rise Against in November 2006, so this was a treat for the local crowd.
I’m not too familiar with Hot Water Music, but they played a tight set that really got the crowd going and by the time they came on there were a ton of people there. They started off with “Remedy” and played a three song encore. I respect the band and they sounded pretty good, even given Terminal 5's poor sound system.
There were other shows going on this night, but it was great that so many people were at this one. Even if it wasn’t the best show, it was fun and a nice night out.
